Dr. John M. Sweeten has served as Resident Director at Amarillo since 1996. He leads research programs dealing with beef cattle nutrition and health, wheat breeding and genetics, pest management and crop stress, environmental quality, and natural resource management for a multidisciplinary team of scientists and staff (65 total).  He also has a joint appointment with West Texas A&M University (WTAMU). He has authored more than 480 publications, papers, and reports on livestock and poultry manure management, including use as biomass fuel, air and water quality management.

EXPERTISE:  
Specialty involves research and technology transfer in  agricultural waste management; air and water quality protection and utilization as a biofuel. He leads multi agency projects on odor and dust control, for feedlots and dairies and energy from manure biomass.

PRIOR ASSIGNMENTS:
Previously, Dr. Sweeten served as Professor, Extension Agricultural Engineer, and Associate Department Head in a 24 year career with the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station. Prior to that, he was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, assigned to the US EPA in Cincinnati Ohio.
