Dr. Burkham serves as the FCS Regional Program Director for the North Region. She provides leadership for Family and Consumer Sciences programs with youth and adult audiences in the 66 North Region Counties which surround Amarillo, Vernon and Lubbock. She holds a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education from Texas Tech University, a M.S. degree in Agriculture Education from Texas Tech University and a Doctorate of Education in Agriculture Education and Communications from Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University.
Dr. Burkham has been a part of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service team since 1991. She has served in the North Region the majority of her career. She has served as an FCS agent in Lubbock and Lamb Counties, Extension Program Specialist 4-H for the South Plains and Panhandle districts, 4-H Volunteerism Specialist located in Dallas, Regional Program Director 4-H and Youth and an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist before being promoted to regional program director.
Her leadership roles co-chairperson of Extension’s Volunteer Steering Committee, Program Excellence Academy, Youth Entrepreneurship program, and the Partners Supporting Families Response Team. She implemented the agencies youth protection standards program by screening more than 20,000 volunteers. Dr. Burkham has co-authored several curriculum pieces including Volunteer Administration in the 21st Century, Building Connections and the Youth Protection Standards. She has supervised and mentored nine undergraduate students and serves as a guest lecturer at West Texas A&M University, Amarillo College and Texas Tech University.
Dr. Burkham is the recipient of numerous awards including four Extension Superior Service Awards, Distinguished Service Award from TAE4-HA, New Professional Award for NEAFCS, Epsilon Sigma Phi State Team Award and the Top Graduate Award in the College of Human Sciences at Texas Tech University.
