In Amarillo, Dr. Bean assists and advises county Extension agents and producers in 21 counties of the Texas Panhandle regions on grain crop production issues. This involves designing and implementing demonstrations, research studies, and educational programs to address crop production questions. Fact sheets, newsletters, and news articles are prepared to disseminate research-based answers to these questions. Individual producers are provided consultation to address their specific concerns.

Brent is an active member of Southern Weed Science Society and Western Society of Weed Science. Served and chaired on several committees. Serve as a reviewer for Agronomy Journal and Weed Technology.

Research and education focus:
Conduct annually over 35 weed control studies in sorghum, corn, wheat, soybean and sunflower.
Conduct forage sorghum silage trials involving dual-purpose, photoperiod sensitive, male sterile and brown mid-rib type sorghums. This study annually has over 90 entries. These entries are compared to standard haygrazer and grain producing varieties for silage yield and quality.
Conduct uniform wheat variety trials across the Texas Panhandle to provide producers with variety recommendations for their local environmental conditions.

2004 Texas A&M Soil and Crop Science Outstanding Extension Specialists Award.
2000 West Texas Agricultural Chemical Institute Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Agricultural Industry of West Texas.
1999 Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence Team Award. Member of the North Plains Potential Evapotranspiration (NP-PET) Research Team.
