Dr. Osterstock is a veterinary epidemiologist responsible for ruminant health research at Texas AgriLife Research in Amarillo. He also holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University in College Station. He is charged with developing a ruminant health and infectious disease research program and laboratory in Amarillo with emphasis on infectious disease epidemiology in contemporary animal agriculture systems. His primary research interests are in genetic epidemiology and multi-level modeling of infectious diseases in cattle.

Prior to coming to Amarillo, Dr. Osterstock worked as a clinician in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in College Station while pursuing his doctorate degree. He has also completed an internship in food animal medicine at Colorado State University and worked in private practice in McCook, NE with clinical responsibility for veterinary services to beef cow-calf and feeder cattle clients.

Dr. Osterstock has done research in various areas of epidemiology including diagnostic test evaluation and genetic epidemiology. His primary area of focus has been in describing familial associations with Johne’s disease in beef cattle. He is a member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, the Academy of Veterinary Consultants, and the International Association for Paratuberculosis.
