Those attending the event will hear educational topics related to wheat marketing, variety selection and management practices, and updates on wheat forage. “The 2022 wheat crop growing season was tough in our area because of the extreme dry conditions from planting all the way to harvest” said Scott Strawn, AgriLife Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent for Ochiltree County. “Over half the planted acres were not harvested and the yields were below average on the harvested acres.” The bright spot, he said, was the price level. With the price still holding strong, there is optimism for planting wheat for next year, he said.
“With the current dry conditions, many of the cow-calf producers are looking for alternatives to feed their cows and calves to avoid selling them,” Strawn said. “With these current conditions, hopefully some of the information provided at this meeting will be useful to both the farmers and the cattlemen in attendance.”
